The Consolidated Gold Mine is located right in the heart of Dahlonega, Georgia (185 Consolidated Gold Mine Rd). It is just a few minutes from the historic downtown square, which makes it an easy addition to any day trip or weekend getaway in the North Georgia mountains.

There is free parking on-site, and the entrance is clearly marked with signs.

Practical Tips for Your Visit

Wear the right clothes. The mine stays around 60 degrees all year, so dress accordingly! You will also want closed-toed shoes since the path underground is uneven in places.
Not stroller or wheelchair friendly. The tour involves stairs and narrow tunnels, so it is not a good fit for anyone with mobility issues, strollers, or wheelchairs.
Great rainy day activity. We went on a rainy day and it ended up being the perfect indoor experience. You are completely underground for most of the tour, so the weather does not matter at all.
Expect some darkness. One part of the tour includes a short moment with the lights out to show how dark it was for the original miners. It is quick, but worth knowing ahead of time if anyone in your group is afraid of the dark.
Tour length and timing. The tour takes about 40 to 45 minutes. It is easy to fit in as part of a half-day visit to Dahlonega, and it leaves plenty of time to explore other local spots afterward.

After the Tour: Exploring Downtown Dahlonega

Once you finish the tour, you will exit back through the gift shop, and from there, it is just a short drive to downtown Dahlonega. The historic square is full of charm, with locally owned shops, boutiques, restaurants, and even a few wine tasting rooms if you want to keep the fun going.

After our visit to the mine, we headed downtown to grab lunch and browse the shops. It was the perfect way to round out the day. Whether you are into antiques, art, or just strolling with a coffee in hand, there is something for everyone.
