What to Expect at Cheyenne RV Resort by Rjourney

In May 2025, we drove from Cumming, Georgia to Moran, Wyoming in our Ram 3500 Dually and 44′ Fifth Wheel. It was a LONG drive… approximately 28 hours. During that trip, we stayed at the Cheyenne RV Resort for two nights.

The campground is located off I-80 in southeast Wyoming and is great for anyone passing through the area looking for a safe, convenient place to stay.

First Impressions of Cheyenne RV Resort

The campground was easy to find as the GPS took us directly to the entrance but the road leading to the park is a little rough… prepare for bumps!

Upon arrival, we looked at each other and laughed. While this campground is quaint and offers decent amenities and things to do, calling it an RV resort is definitely a stretch. IYKYK.

Check In Process

Check in was easy and the staff that we met were really friendly. One of the hosts even provided a great dinner recommendation that is right down the road – T-Joes (more to come on that later).

The staff will provide you with a map, directions, codes for the restrooms and showers, and the WiFi login and password.

Cheyenne RV Resort Map & Layout

Cheyenne RV Resort is an average size with 44 RV sites, 6 cabins, 11 tent sites, and primitive group tent sites available for rent. The RV sites are a mixture of daily rentals and long-term guests.

The RV Sites at Cheyenne RV Resort

If you have been to enough campgrounds and RV parks, you learn to question when one is labeled as a “resort”. At a true RV resort, we expect level concrete pads that are long and wide, nicer bathroom facilities, and bonus features like trash pickup.

The sites here are pull-throughs with full hook-ups and both 30 and 50 Amp connections. However, the sites are gravel and there is not much space between them. Each site has a picnic table and grills are scattered throughout the community.

Unfortunately, this is one of those times that the park is more than adequate for a campground but probably should not be labeled as a resort…

Tent Sites

The campground has tent sites with electric and water as well as a group of primitive tent sites. Due to potential freezing temperatures, the water to the tent sites is turned off from October 1st through April 30th.

Cabins at Cheyenne RV Resort

Don’t have an RV? That’s ok! There are cabins available on site.

The cabins are very basic and include a queen size bed as well as twin size bunk beds. The cabin does not include a bathroom or kitchen but you do have access to the community facilities.

Note: you have to bring your own linens.

Cheyenne RV Resort Amenities

The park has a variety of amenities including a covered pavilion with picnic tables and sinks, bathhouses, laundry facilities, charcoal grills, dog park, and tons of games.

Games, Games, and More Games

One thing that this place does well is trying to entertain the children and those still young at heart (aka Alan). Cheyenne RV Resort has everything from putt putt to darts to a small basketball court and several more options in between.

There were kids playing almost every time we passed. It took a while to get a child-free photo.

Heated Pool

Yes, you heard that right. Cheyenne RV Resort has a heated pool! Unfortunately for us, we visited before the pool opened for the season so it was still empty.

If you are lucky enough to visit between May 28th and September 7th*, bring your bathing suit and go for a swim in the community pool.

*We were told varying closing dates of the pool. The earliest was September 7th but others said the pool was open through late September.*

Pool hours are from 10am to 8pm.

Dog Park

One of the major perks for us is that Cheyenne RV Resort has a dog park. While it is on the smaller side and didn’t have grass in it, we always appreciate when we have space where Coco pup can run around off leash.

Bathrooms

The bathrooms and laundry facilities at Cheyenne RV Resort are located by the check-in office and community store. Upon check-in, they provide access codes to the bathrooms and showers.

We did not use the community bathrooms but we did take a peak. They were clean but nothing special.

Laundry Facilities

Having traveled to RV parks, campgrounds, and resorts across the US, we were shocked to see the prices for laundry at Cheyenne RV Resort.

The average we typically see is between $1.25-$2.00 for each step in the process.

At Cheyenne RV Resort, it costs $3.25 to wash and $4.25 to dry – woah!

The only positive of doing laundry at this location is that the machines accept credit cards and do not require quarters like most locations.

Pavilion & Community Areas

There is a pavilion with picnic tables, community grills, and a firepit that are available for all guests to use.

The Downsides of Cheyenne RV Resort

No RV park, campground, or resort is perfect and we always keep that in mind and try to find the best in every place we visit.

Proximity to I-80

This can be seen as both a positive and a negative. It is easy to access the interstate from the campground but, depending on your site location, you can also potentially hear road noise.

Limited Shade and Wind Protection

When we visited, the lack of shade was not a problem. But man did the wind roar! Be prepared for a lack of protection from the elements.

Pro Tip: do not leave your awnings out unless you are actively using them. Wyoming winds can be extremely unpredictable. And yes, we unfortunately speak from experience as we had a slight mishap with our awning while in WY. 👀

Places to Eat Near Cheyenne RV Resort

We didn’t do much outside of the campground while in Cheyenne but we did have a few good meals. Here are the places we would recommend.

T Joes Steakhouse & Saloon

We ate here right after arriving in Cheyenne. It was our wedding anniversary and we had been in the truck for over 8 hours.

We arrived at T Joes based on the recommendation of a camp host. We chose to sit in the bar area at a high-top table and our waitress was so sweet. We told her about our long-drive that day and that we were thrilled to eat a good steak. She smiled.

After finishing our meal, she brought us a free slice of strawberry cheesecake to share since we had a long day. At that point, we told her it was our anniversary and she tried to pay for our meal which we appreciated but refused.

If you are looking for good food and even better people, check out T Joes. Bonus – it is not far from the campground.

Pour Decisions Bar & Grill

Are you looking for a fun atmosphere with great food? If so, check out Pour Decisions Bar & Grill.

It is located a little farther away from the campground but has a variety of options on the menu – everything from a Philly Cheese Steak to Bratwurst to Grilled Teriyaki Salmon and a ton of other options in between.

Seriously, there are so many choices that everyone in the family should be able to find something that suits their mood.

Final Thoughts

Ultimately we stopped here because it was along our route, could fit our rig, and was open in early-mid May. When searching for a stop in this area, many campgrounds did not open until later in the spring which made planning a little more difficult.

Overall, Cheyenne RV Resort met our needs and we would stay here again if we were in the area for a night or two. If we were planning to be in southeast Wyoming for a longer stay, we would probably look for another location that offered a little more space between sites.
