Hilton Head National RV Resort Review: Is It Worth the Price?
After a few weeks of boondocking and remote campgrounds, we were ready for something a bit more upscale. Hilton Head National RV Resort (HHNRV) came highly recommended, and now we can see why.
Located just outside Hilton Head, this resort offers a level of comfort and style we don’t find very often on the road.
We’ve stayed at dozens of RV parks across the country, and while many promise luxury, few actually deliver. But this one did. From the spacious sites to the resort-style amenities, HHNRV gave us a true vacation experience.
In this post, we’re sharing our full review of Hilton Head National RV Resort based on our stay including what stood out, what could be better, and who this campground is best for. If you’re considering a stop here on your next adventure, here’s everything you need to know.

Location & First Impressions
Hilton Head National RV Resort was easy to find, even with our big rig.
The check-in instructions were clear and straightforward, and the entrance was thoughtfully designed. There were several staging lanes available, which meant we could pull over, park safely, and walk inside to register without blocking traffic.
The staff made a great first impression. They were well-dressed, friendly, and professional. We were especially impressed when they handed us a welcome bag just for Coco, complete with treats and 💩 bags. It’s the little things that show a campground truly caters to travelers with pets.
After checking in, a staff member personally guided us to our site and helped us get backed in. That level of service is rare, and it immediately set the tone for the rest of our stay. From the moment we arrived, it was clear this wasn’t your typical campground.
Campsites: Roomy, Level, and Social
We stayed in the main section of the campground, which is the family-friendly side. The adults-only area was already full when we made our reservation.
Our site was part of a buddy layout, where two rigs back into opposite sides of a shared space. Unlike some campgrounds where buddy sites face each other directly, these were designed to provide a balance of privacy and community.

We didn’t know our neighbors when we arrived, but we ended up getting to know them over the course of our stay. One evening, they were grilling and offered to share their meal with us. It was a simple moment that reminded us why we love this lifestyle.
Our site, like all of them at HHNRV, had a level concrete pad that was spacious and well-kept. There wasn’t much shade, which seems to be the norm throughout the resort, but the layout and cleanliness of the campground made up for it.
Here’s a look at the resort layout. It helps to get a sense of how the sites, amenities, and adults-only section are spaced out.

If you are traveling with friends or enjoy a bit of friendly interaction with neighbors, the buddy site setup works well. If you prefer more distance, you may want to request one of the standard sites when booking.
Waters Edge: 21+ Section
If you are looking for something more exclusive, consider staying on the Waters Edge side of the resort. They have access to ALL of the amenities but guests in the main campground do NOT have access to Waters Edge.
They have their own pool, cabanas, community firepit, laundry, clubhouse, bar, and the only hot tub in the resort!
Amenities That Made Us Feel Like We Were on Vacation
This resort doesn’t just check the boxes for full hookups and a clean bathhouse. It delivers a full-on vacation experience, and we made it a point to try as much as we could.
We cooled off in the lazy river, grabbed drinks by the pool, and spent time hanging out around the community fire pit. The bathrooms were some of the nicest we have seen at any campground. They were clean, modern, and honestly nicer than most hotels we have stayed in.

The resort is also huge.
We were glad we brought our electric scooters, which made it easy to get around quickly. If you do not have scooters or bikes, we recommend renting a golf cart. Some parts of the resort are a bit of a walk, especially if you want to bounce between the pool, golf course, arcade, and dog park in a single afternoon.
Speaking of dogs, the on-site dog park was a hit with Coco. She had plenty of room to run, and it was a great spot for her to burn off energy while we sipped a cold beverage and chatted with other dog parents.
One night we even managed to get “lost” while cruising the resort. We were not truly lost, but we took a wrong turn after dark and had to loop back a few times before finding our site. It turned into a funny story and one of our favorite memories from the trip.

Pool & Lazy River
We were a little disappointed by the pool hours: 9am to 8pm. Morgan loves a good night swim since she tends to burn during the day.
But we still spent a lot of time in the lazy river. Our vacation was meant to be relaxing and this was the perfect option.

We would visit the Tiki Hut, order a cold beverage (if you are of legal age, we recommend you try the Strawberry Margarita – delicious!), Morgan would reapply sunscreen, and then we would float some more.
Pro tip: arrive early at the pool early if you want a chair or one of the tables with umbrellas. Many times we would see all the chairs and tables already covered with bags and towels.
On-site Restaurant: Billy Mac’s
We ate here for lunch three times. We weren’t planning to (we had plenty of food in the RV) but it was that good!
Our recommendations:
- Mega Meaty Pizza
- Bang Bang Shrimp
- Fried Pickles (not listed on this menu but was in the restaurant)
- Turkey Club
Vibe Check: Clean, Friendly, and Actually Luxurious
From the moment we arrived, Hilton Head National RV Resort felt different. Everything was spotless, from the landscaping to the shared spaces and especially the restrooms. We have stayed at a lot of RV parks that claim to be resorts, but this one truly earns the title.

The atmosphere throughout the campground was welcoming and laid-back. Fellow campers were friendly and easy to strike up a conversation with, whether at the fire pit, pool, or dog park.
The staff were just as approachable, always greeting us with a smile and checking in to see how our stay was going.
One of the standout features was the attention to detail. Every corner of the resort looked thoughtfully maintained. From the pristine landscaping to the modern lighting and signage, it felt more like a boutique resort than a typical RV park.
If you enjoy camping but appreciate a bit of polish and pampering, this resort strikes that balance perfectly.
Cost & Value: Is HHNRV Worth It?
Hilton Head National RV Resort is definitely not a “budget” campground, and we knew that going in. But after staying here, we can confidently say that the experience matches the price.
From the spotless facilities to the luxury-level amenities, everything about the resort felt high-end. It’s easily the nicest place we’ve stayed in our RV. The quality of the infrastructure, the layout of the sites, and the attention to guest experience all support the premium pricing.
Rates vary depending on the season and site type, but you can sometimes find specials if you stay multiple nights or book during less busy times. It is worth keeping an eye out for discount codes when planning your trip.
For us, the cost felt justified, especially when compared to other “resorts” we have stayed at. Some places slap the word “resort” on their sign and call it a day. HHNRV actually delivers.
We’ve stayed at other “RV resorts” like Camp Margaritaville at Lanier Islands, and while it was fun and full of energy, Hilton Head National RV Resort felt far more polished and peaceful. It’s on another level in terms of service and design.
Things to Do Near Hilton Head National RV Resort
Even though there is plenty to do within the resort, we always like to explore the surrounding area when we can. Hilton Head is just a short drive away and offers everything from beach access to great local restaurants.

One morning, we headed to Hilton Head for breakfast and planned to spend the rest of the day at the beach.
But we quickly ran into a challenge that other RVers and truck owners will likely relate to.
Parking was nearly impossible, especially with a dually. After circling for a while, we gave up and headed back.
If we go again, we will bring our ebikes and park farther away from the beach, then bike in. That would have made the whole experience much more enjoyable and less stressful.
That said, there is so much to do on-site that you may not feel the need to leave at all. Between the lazy river, pool, arcade, restaurant, and fire pits, we could have easily filled our days without ever stepping outside the resort gates.
What We Packed for Our Stay at HHNRV
To make the most of our time at Hilton Head National RV Resort, we relied on a few of our favorite pieces of gear. Whether you are planning to explore the campground, relax at your site, or hang out by the pool, these items made a big difference in our stay.
Here are a few things we recommend bringing:
- Electric scooters or bikes – The resort is large, and having a quick way to get around made everything more convenient.
- Camping chairs – Perfect for relaxing by the fire pit or on your site’s patio.
- Backpack cooler – Great for bringing drinks to the pool or snacks while cruising the campground.
- Solo Stove or similar fire pit – The resort has community fire pits, but we loved having our own setup at the site.
- Sunshade or umbrella – Since most sites do not have much natural shade, a portable shade setup can be really helpful.
We used all of these during our stay, and they genuinely made the experience more enjoyable. If you are curious about any of our favorites, you can check out our full list of RV essentials here.
Who This Resort Is (and Isn’t) For
Hilton Head National RV Resort is one of the few parks that truly lives up to the “resort” label. It is perfect for RV travelers who want more than just hookups and a fire ring. If you are looking for comfort, convenience, and an upscale environment, this is your place.
This resort is ideal for:
- Couples looking for a peaceful and polished getaway
- Families who want a fun and amenity-packed experience
- Pet owners who appreciate dog-friendly touches
- Digital nomads who value quiet spots with strong infrastructure

This resort may not be the best fit for:
- Campers who prefer rustic or natural settings
- Budget travelers looking for a simple overnight stop
- Anyone with an older RV that doesn’t meet the 10-year rule
- Tent campers (we didn’t see any during our stay)
We’ve also stayed at Pigeon Forge Landing RV Resort, another campground that brands itself as a luxury destination. While it’s a great spot with nice amenities, HHNRV stands out for its attention to detail, more spacious layout, and overall guest experience.
It is not about roughing it here. It is about enjoying your RV like a vacation home, with everything you need to relax or play just a short walk or scooter ride away.

Is Hilton Head National RV Resort Worth It?
Hilton Head National RV Resort is one of the most well-rounded and thoughtfully designed campgrounds we’ve stayed at. Whether you’re traveling as a couple or with kids, there’s something here to make your stay memorable.
The adults-only section is quieter, beautifully maintained, and felt more like a boutique resort than a typical RV park.
And while we didn’t have any of the nieces or nephews with us, we were seriously impressed by how much the family-friendly side of the resort offers too. From the lazy river and pickleball courts to the arcade, playgrounds, and planned events, it’s clear HHNRV puts effort into making sure everyone has a great experience.
If you’re looking for a luxury RV resort that doesn’t skimp on fun or comfort, this is absolutely one to add to your list. We left feeling refreshed and already thinking about a return trip, possibly with the extended family in tow.
